What are Natural, Grass-fed Foods?

Cattle grazing on natural pasture

“Our animals are fed a natural diet that has not been treated with pesticides or herbicides, and are raised without the use of artificial hormones or antibiotics.”

Most animals are raised on pasture for the first months of their lives. The vast majority of them are then transported to distant feedlots where they are fattened or “finished” on a purely grain-based diet. Typically, the animals are injected with an implant that releases hormones to speed their growth and lower costs. To overcome the inevitable health problems that come with eating an artificial diet and living in stressful, crowded conditions, feedlot animals must be given antibiotics. This is the quality of meat that you find in most grocery stores and restaurants.

“We know exactly what is going into our animals and that is how we can claim our products are truly natural.”

Our animals, by contrast, are raised from birth to market on our family ranch or an associated farm. We practice environmental stewardship by maintaining natural grassland pasture. We do not use pesticides or herbicides on our pastures or on the feed we harvest. We know exactly what is going into our animals and that is how we can claim our products is truly natural.
